Okay, so Accenture thinks AI is going to save the planet by making energy companies more efficient? Give me a break. This whole "AI for decarbonization" thing sounds like the latest corporate buzzword bingo card. You know, like when they tried to convince us blockchain was going to solve world hunger. How'd that work out again?
Accenture, bless their hearts, released a report called “Powered for Change.” Sounds inspiring, right? But let's be real: it's Accenture consulting we're talking about. This ain't some altruistic endeavor. This is about selling more "AI-driven projects" to energy companies who are desperate to look good while probably doing the bare minimum. Call me cynical, but I've seen this movie before.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) says energy demand is going up 80% by 2050. Eighty percent! And Accenture thinks AI is the magic bullet? That AI will magically fix this? It's like saying a fancy new spreadsheet will solve world peace.
Accenture CEO Julie Sweet says AI changes the work, the workforce, and the workbench. Okay, Julie, but what exactly does that mean? "Augmented" is the word she uses. We're all gonna be augmented. Sounds suspiciously like "replaced" to me. And then there's the upskilling agenda and the "talent rotation." Translation: some people will get retrained, and others will get the boot. Accenture CEO Julie Sweet on AI and Why Humans Are Here to Stay
And let's not forget the "responsible AI" angle. Accenture apparently had a responsible AI program "before anybody knew the words responsible AI." Right. They're so ahead of the curve it's almost laughable. But what happens when the AI's "responsible" decisions clash with the company's profit margins? I'm guessing responsibility takes a backseat.

Sweet talks about a product that retrains AI to comply with company policies. That sounds great, but I'm wondering how that's any different from just automating the same old corporate BS, but faster and more efficiently. And offcourse, with fewer humans involved.
She claims "the human experience has to stay at the center of all design." Oh, does it now? Because from where I'm sitting, it looks like the human experience is being shoved to the side in the name of efficiency and cost savings. I mean, Accenture's a business, right? Not a charity.
The debate isn't about whether AI is good, Sweet argues. It's about how you implement and activate it. The bubble discussion is the wrong one. Okay, maybe. But are we really sure it's not a bubble? Or at least a massively overhyped trend that's going to leave a lot of people disappointed?
I'm starting to sound like a grumpy old man yelling at clouds. Then again, maybe I'm the crazy one here. Maybe AI really is going to save the planet. But forgive me if I remain skeptical.
